"Ukrainian DNA - DNA UCRAINO" showcased during the 18th International Architecture Biennale in Venice, represented the voices of Ukrainian architects.
The project aims to delve into the Genius Loci of Ukrainian culture on our territory, with a futuristic vision for rebuilding that will maintain the characteristic features of our nation. It serves as a means of filling in the gaps in our fragile and delicate reconstruction of the past while carrying a potent force of transformation.
The project serves as a vital instrument in strengthening the communication of historical justice and facilitating effective cultural dialogue for the mutual integration of Ukrainian and European contexts in the new era. The destruction of historical, cultural, and architectural landmarks by Russian occupiers highlights the significance of this project in conveying the genuine history of Ukraine by drawing architectural parallels. The architecture preserved in the territory of Ukraine eloquently attests to the emergence of the statehood and culture of Kyivan Rus while also revealing the largest theft in history by the Russian Empire (and, in fact, Moscow).The project program also intends to establish the pan-European genesis of Ukraine, which has always been a part of Europe, with values laid down in previous centuries.
The event took a place from May 18 to June 20, 2023, on Giudecca Island in Venice, at the Sala del Camino of the Monastery of San Cosmas and Damiano.
